Brittany Coast: Cider and Castles

Like all cycling holidays getting out of the Ferry port is the hardest part but especially when the Garmin turns itself off and resets to factory settings. The advantage was it made me 14 stone for a while so calculated I used a million calories.

The ride was pretty gloomy up to lunchtime so we didn't get to see the Mont St Michel through the mist. We also had to stop to fettle our gears with the front mech playing up. Coffee was in Cancale, a little seaside place with seafood stalls everywhere.

By the time we got to Pontorson it was glorious sunshine and we had a 3 course lunch for 9 euros washed down with bols of cidre pression. Verity had a big smile on her face.

The next section after lunched involved a lot of singing of hymns (don't ask) along lovely quiet country roads into Fougères for the night. We also had a pedal malfunction when we fell gracefully sideways when I couldn't get my clips undone. So now I have a matching pair of grazed elbows. Our quirky B&B was just by the drawbridge of the Chateau and its four overshot water wheels.  They had two cute little girls and a three legged cat.

We had dinner in the Breton style - galettes and bols of cider. Do you see a trend?
